Hello everyone! I’m completely new to the crypto world and feeling pretty overwhelmed. I’ve been trying to research how to get into Bitcoin but everything seems so complicated. I’m based in Australia and have looked into a couple of platforms. I tried CMC Invest but couldn’t even purchase a small amount (around $10 AUD). Coinbase wants ID verification which makes me nervous about privacy. Are there other reliable exchanges available for Australians? I’m mainly interested in investing small amounts to start learning. Any beginner-friendly recommendations would be amazing. Thanks for your help!
Hey! Yeah, we’ve all felt that way starting out.
What happened with CMC Invest when you tried buying that $10? Error message or just wouldn’t process? Worth figuring out if it was a glitch.
For Aussie exchanges - tried BTC Markets or Coinspot? Both are solid local options. Coinspot’s really beginner-friendly. Independent Reserve gets mentioned a lot too.
What’s got you nervous about ID verification? Privacy concerns or something specific? Most legit exchanges need it now - regulatory requirement. If I know what’s bugging you, I can suggest workarounds or explain why it’s generally safe.
Are you planning to buy and hold or actually trade? What’s your main goal - learning the tech, investment returns, or just curious?
Starting small is smart! How much you thinking for your first buy?
Just do the ID verification mate - I was sketchy about it too but it’s standard now. Swyftx works well for Aussies, I’ve used it for ages without problems. That $10 CMC thing sounds odd though, probably a minimum deposit? Don’t stress which platform to pick - you’ll likely try several once you get started anyway lol
ID verification can be frustrating, but it is a requirement for legitimate exchanges in Australia due to anti-money laundering regulations. I understand your concerns about privacy; however, platforms like Coinbase generally offer robust security measures once your account is verified, and you won’t have to go through this process again. If you faced an issue with CMC Invest regarding the $10 purchase, it may simply be an error or a minimum buy limit. I recommend reaching out to their customer support for clarification. Starting with a local exchange could be beneficial as they understand the Australian banking system and can provide support during business hours. Additionally, consider getting a good wallet app to familiarize yourself with transactions and addresses before making any purchases to avoid costly mistakes in the future.
