Hey everyone! I just picked up some TAO tokens as my first cryptocurrency investment and I’m looking for guidance on the best practices.
I know the golden rule about not leaving coins on exchanges, so I want to move my TAO to a secure wallet. I’ve been reading about staking options and I’m curious about a few things:
What kind of staking returns can I expect with TAO? Are we talking about daily, weekly, or monthly payouts?
If I decide to stake my tokens, will they be locked up for a specific time period or can I withdraw them whenever I want?
Can I unstake just the rewards while keeping the principal amount staked?
Any tips from experienced TAO holders would be really helpful. Thanks!
Perfect timing on this question! I’ve been wondering about similar stuff and watching TAO for a while, but I’m still figuring out how their subnet system compares to regular staking.
The delegation setup seems pretty unique - but how do you pick which validator to delegate to? Are there websites or tools showing performance stats for different validators? That seems like it’d make a huge difference in returns.
Also @LeapingFox - since you’re new to crypto, have you thought about which wallet to use? Moving off exchanges is smart, but there are tons of options. Some people swear by hardware wallets for long-term holding, but there’s the convenience factor if you want to check rewards frequently.
One more thing - does the 7-day unbonding period apply when switching between validators? Or only when pulling everything out completely? I’d hate to wait a week just to rebalance between subnets lol
grats on diving into TAO! just a heads up, staking’s a bit diff here. u delegate to validators instead of the usual way. rewards can change based on how active the network is and how good thevalidator is. no strict lockup, but expect some time for processing. def move ur coins off exchanges!
Welcome to the TAO community! I’ve been holding TAO for about eight months now. The staking works through delegation to subnet validators - not traditional proof-of-stake. Returns vary a lot based on which subnet you pick and network activity. I’ve seen 8% to 20% APY, but it bounces around quite a bit. Your delegation isn’t locked, but there’s a 7-day unbonding period when you withdraw, so plan for that. You can’t just unstake rewards - it’s all or nothing when you undelegate. I’d start with smaller amounts to learn the process before going all in.
