I’ve been talking about digital currencies for a while now but I’m ready to actually invest some real money. I have about $500 that I can use to get started with crypto investing. My plan is to add more funds gradually over the next few months. I’m considering spreading my investment across Bitcoin, Ethereum, Kaspa, Chainlink, Avalanche, and Solana. What do you think about this mix? I understand that Bitcoin should probably make up the biggest portion of my portfolio with the other coins getting smaller allocations. Any advice would be helpful!
$500 is a solid start for crypto. Don’t spread it across six coins right away - I made that mistake early on and ended up with tiny positions that weren’t worth watching. Start with Bitcoin and Ethereum instead - maybe 70% BTC, 30% ETH. Once you’re comfortable with how volatile crypto gets and you’ve added more money, then go for those altcoins. Dollar cost averaging works great with crypto’s swings, so adding funds gradually is smart. Just make sure you’re using a good exchange and learn basic wallet security before putting in real money.
skip kaspa and avalanche - too risky for beginners. stick with btc/eth to learn the ropes. use binance or coinbase pro to cut fees on that $500. dollar-cost averaging is the way to go tho!
Hey Ethan! Interesting picks - what got you into Kaspa and Avalanche? Those aren’t the usual starter coins most people mention.
With $500 split six ways, you’ll probably get crushed by fees. Which exchange are you planning to use? That’ll make a huge difference in costs.
What’s your risk tolerance? Some of these altcoins swing 20-30% daily - sometimes way more. Ready for that kind of chaos, or want to start smaller and test the waters?
And what’s your timeline? Short-term trading or holding for months/years? That changes how you’d want to split everything up.
