Best way to transfer Cardano from exchange to hardware wallet and staking options

Hey everyone, I’m pretty new to cryptocurrency and need some advice. I currently hold some Cardano on an exchange platform and want to move it to a hardware wallet for better security. The exchange seems to charge pretty high withdrawal fees though.

Has anyone here successfully transferred their ADA to a hardware wallet? What’s the cheapest way to do this transfer? I’m trying to minimize the fees as much as possible.

Also, once I get my coins onto a hardware wallet, is it still possible to stake them? How does that work exactly? Which hardware wallets support ADA staking?

I really don’t want to keep using software wallets because I’m worried about security risks like malware and potential hacks. Any recommendations would be super helpful!

Oh interesting question! I’m curious about something related - have you checked if your exchange has withdrawal fee promotions or loyalty programs? Some exchanges cut fees based on trading volume or if you hold their tokens, but I’m not sure which ones do this for ADA.

Which hardware wallet are you considering? I’m torn between Ledger and Trezor myself. Do you know if there are differences in staking between different hardware wallets when using the same software like Yoroi?

One thing I’m curious about - when you stake from a hardware wallet, does the ADA actually leave your wallet or stay there while earning rewards? I’ve seen conflicting info and would love to hear from someone actually doing it. Maintaining custody while staking seems almost too good to be true compared to other cryptos.

What exchange are you using? Maybe others here have experience with that platform’s withdrawal process and can share tips!

i use a Trezor Model T for my ADA, and it works great with Yoroi. staking is easy too, just select a pool in Yoroi. for fees, check if your exchange offers any discounts for higher tiers or withdraw during off-peak times. honestly tho, Cardano’s fees are pretty stable.

Transferring ADA to a hardware wallet is generally easy once you understand the process. I moved my ADA from Binance to a Ledger Nano S Plus about six months ago, and the withdrawal fee was around 1 ADA, which I found reasonable given the security of cold storage. After transferring, you can stake ADA directly from your Ledger using Daedalus, yielding annual rewards of about 4-5%. It’s important to run a small test transaction before transferring large amounts and ensure your recovery phrase is safely backed up. Cardano’s network fees are quite low, so the bulk of your costs will come from the exchange’s withdrawal fee.
