Best ways for a minor (17) to learn crypto investing before turning 18?

Hey guys! I’m 17 years old and want to get into cryptocurrency trading. I’ve been reading about coins like Bitcoin and Dogecoin and they seem really interesting. Since I can’t legally trade yet, what are some good ways to learn the ropes? I’m looking for practice platforms or educational resources that can teach me the basics. What demo trading sites do you recommend? Also, what should I know about keeping my future investments safe? Which exchanges are most beginner-friendly for when I’m old enough to start? Any advice would be awesome!

Another young crypto enthusiast! Smart that you’re thinking ahead instead of diving in headfirst at 18.

What got you interested in crypto? Recent price action or something you read?

Have you thought about the psychological side yet? Like how you’d react seeing your portfolio drop 30% in a day? (Trust me, it happens.) Try paper trading with fake money but pretend it’s real - see how that feels.

Are your parents cool with this? Some families hate crypto, others love it. Worth having that conversation now since you’ll want their advice starting out.

Here’s something most people ignore until it’s too late - taxes. Crypto taxes are way more complicated than regular investing and confusing even for adults. Look into how it works in your area.

What type of crypto interests you most? Just the big ones like Bitcoin and Ethereum, or thinking about smaller altcoins too? Each has different risk profiles and learning curves.

start with youtube videos and coinbase’s learning section - they actually give you free crypto for finishing lessons. tradingview has paper trading, but dont get cocky if you crush it since fake money’s way different than watching real cash disappear lol

Start with Investopedia’s crypto simulator - it uses real market data but with fake money, so you get a feel for how prices actually move. Keep a trading journal while you practice. I can’t stress this enough - write down why you made each trade so you can review your thinking later. Learn to read charts on TradingView (it’s free). Focus on support/resistance levels and basic indicators first. Don’t jump into complicated strategies right away. Get familiar with hardware wallets and understand the difference between hot and cold storage. You’ll need this to keep your crypto safe. When you’re ready to trade real money, start small. Even after tons of practice, trading with actual cash hits different psychologically. You’ll need time to build up your risk tolerance.
