Complete beginner at 19 needs guidance on cryptocurrency trading fundamentals

Hey everyone! I’m 19 and heading to university soon. I really want to learn about cryptocurrency trading but I’m having trouble finding good starting resources. Most tutorials I find online assume you already understand the basic concepts. I know a tiny bit about crypto but honestly I need to learn everything from the ground up. I’ve asked around on other forums but people either made fun of me for being young or tried to get me to join their trading groups that seemed sketchy. I don’t want to waste anyone’s time here but could someone please point me toward some solid beginner resources? I’d really appreciate any help with where to begin my learning journey. Thanks so much!

wow jade, honestly refreshing to see someone your age asking the right questions instead of just jumping in headfirst! i’m curious though - what got you interested in crypto trading specifically? are you thinking more about long-term investing or actual day trading?

the reason i ask is because those are pretty different paths with different learning curves. like, if you’re just starting out, have you considered whether you want to focus on understanding the technology behind crypto first, or are you more drawn to the trading/market side of things?

also, since you mentioned you’re heading to university soon - that’s actually perfect timing imo. do you have any finance or economics background from school? even basic stuff helps alot when you’re trying to understand market concepts.

one thing i’m genuinely curious about - when you say you know “a tiny bit” about crypto, what exactly do you already understand? like do you get how wallets work, or blockchain basics, or is it more just surface level stuff you’ve picked up?

ask because knowing where you’re starting from would help people give you better direction. and honestly, the fact that you’re being cautious about those sketchy trading groups shows you’ve got good instincts already :+1:

Starting with educational content from established exchanges like Kraken Learn or Binance Academy would serve you well. These platforms offer structured courses covering blockchain fundamentals, market mechanics, and risk management without the sales pressure you mentioned encountering elsewhere. Before putting real money at risk, I’d recommend using paper trading simulators to practice strategies without financial consequences. My biggest mistake early on was jumping into live trading too quickly without understanding concepts like market orders, stop losses, and position sizing. Focus on learning about different types of analysis, understand what causes price movements, and most importantly develop a solid risk management strategy. The crypto market operates differently than traditional markets with higher volatility and 24/7 trading cycles. Take several months to educate yourself thoroughly before considering any significant investments.

yea man, totally agree. take your time and understand the basics first. there’s a lotta info out there – just be careful with who you trust. also, sites like coinbase can really help you get introduced without the risk right away.
