Complete beginner looking for cryptocurrency guidance - help needed!

Hello community!

I’m 22 years old and completely new to cryptocurrency. My knowledge is pretty limited right now, mostly coming from social media posts and a few random videos I watched online.

I’m genuinely interested in learning more about crypto and would like to make my first purchase, but I’m feeling overwhelmed about where to start. I have several questions that I hope you can help me with:

  • What’s the most secure method to set up a digital wallet?
  • Should I go with a mobile application or stick to web-based platforms?
  • Are there any specific cryptocurrencies that are better suited for newcomers to help me understand the basics?

I want to be clear that I’m not looking for quick profits or anything like that. I simply think this is important knowledge to have and it looks interesting to learn about.

Any suggestions for reliable learning resources, beginner tips, or general advice would be amazing!

Thanks so much for your help!

You’re smart to be cautious with crypto. Start with Coinbase or Kraken - they’re solid exchanges that won’t leave beginners hanging security-wise. Once you get comfortable, grab a hardware wallet like Ledger or Trezor for better protection. Stick with Bitcoin and Ethereum at first. They’re reliable and there’s tons of info available. Avoid anything promising quick gains until you know what you’re doing. Read the Bitcoin whitepaper and watch Andreas Antonopoulos videos - great starting points. Learn about private keys and how markets work before you go deeper. Only put in money you can afford to lose.

hey ava!! i totally get it, starting out can be a bit much. try using a platform like coinbase, it’s super easy. just get some btc at first, it’s the best for beginners. and don’t stress about wallets just yet, the exchange wallets are fine! good luck!

Welcome to crypto, Ava! :slightly_smiling_face: Smart move taking time to learn first instead of jumping in blindly - that’s refreshing here.

What hooked you in those videos? The tech side or investment potential?

For wallets - what’s your plan once you buy? Just holding long-term or exploring DeFi later? This decides if you need a hardware wallet eventually or can start simple.

How comfortable are you with tech generally? Some people jump straight to cold storage, others keep it simple at first. Both work!

I’m curious - did someone you know get you into crypto, or just seeing it everywhere online? Knowing what sparked your interest helps figure out the best learning path.

Tried any podcasts yet? They’re often easier than articles when starting out. What’s your usual learning style?
