Complete beginner seeking advice for starting Monero mining setup

Hello everyone! I’m completely new to cryptocurrency mining and could really use some guidance. Over the last few days, I’ve been researching different mining options and Monero has caught my attention as something unique compared to other cryptocurrencies.

I was initially considering purchasing an ASIC device for Bitcoin mining but decided to explore other alternatives first. After doing more research, I’ve become interested in Monero because of its focus on privacy and decentralization.

I have a budget of around 10,000 NZD to invest in a mining setup. What kind of hardware configuration would you experienced miners recommend for someone just starting out with Monero mining? I’m looking for practical advice on what components to buy and how to get started.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge with a newcomer!

Nice budget! Just check your electricity costs first - I nearly went broke ignoring that lol. Monero difficulty keeps climbing, so those calculator numbers won’t stay accurate. Also look at used hardware - picked up my 3900x rigs way cheaper secondhand.

Hey Ethan! That’s an exciting jump into mining :slightly_smiling_face: I’m curious - why Monero over other CPU-mineable coins like Haven or Wownero? Was it purely the privacy aspect?

Where in NZ are you setting this up? That 10k budget sounds solid, but have you factored in ventilation and sound dampening? Mining rigs get loud and your neighbors won’t appreciate it haha.

One thing that caught me when I started - have you thought about taxes? IRD has specific crypto mining rules that caught me off guard.

What’s your tech background? Comfortable building PCs or need help assembling everything? Just trying to get a feel for how hands-on you want to get.

With 10k NZD you’ve got a solid starting budget for Monero mining. Build multiple rigs instead of one massive setup - way better if something breaks down. Go with AMD Ryzen processors for RandomX, the 5950X or 7950X work great. Make sure each rig has at least 32GB RAM since RandomX eats memory. Don’t forget cooling costs, especially if you’re somewhere hot. Power bills will add up fast so crunch those electricity numbers. I started with two 16-core rigs and just kept adding more. Join a mining pool first instead of going solo - you’ll get steadier payouts while figuring things out. Those online profitability calculators help but remember difficulty changes can mess with your returns.
