I used to follow this YouTuber who made videos about rewriting bad scenes from movies and shows. They were really into fighting copyright laws and wanted everything to be public domain. This person also had arguments with anime reviewers about piracy being okay because streaming sites treat artists poorly.
What really bothered me was when they started promoting NFTs and digital currency. They made this super long video saying NFTs help artists make money. But artists already have ways to earn like commissions and donation pages. Why do we need blockchain stuff when these methods work fine?
The video was like 8 hours long originally, then cut to under an hour. Still felt like they were trying too hard to defend digital tokens that mostly get used for scams. There are already good videos explaining why these things are problematic.
What made it worse was seeing them make fun of people on social media. Someone would share cool art, then reveal it was connected to NFTs after people liked it. If you need to trick people into supporting something, maybe that thing isn’t actually good?
I heard they might start supporting AI art too but I’m not sure about that. It just seems weird how someone went from fighting big companies to promoting tech that often hurts the same artists they claim to support.
