How to report cryptocurrency staking rewards from Wealthsimple

I transferred my cryptocurrency transactions to Wealthsimple’s tax software, but I can’t find any entries for the staking rewards I received. How should I account for this income when filing taxes? Is there a specific tax form I need to use, or can I categorize it as other income? Alternatively, should I just wait until I sell the cryptocurrency before addressing this? I’m looking for guidance to ensure I follow the right procedure.

Hey PixStar54, which crypto are you staking and where? That’ll change how rewards appear (or don’t) in WealthSimple.

Some exchanges are way better at formatting data for tax software. Coinbase does it well, but smaller platforms? Not so much.

How often do you get rewards - daily, weekly? Daily rewards would suck to track manually lol. Have you tried exporting transaction history straight from your staking platform? Those CSV files usually have more details than what imports automatically.

Everyone’s right about reporting when you receive them, but I’m curious why WealthSimple isn’t auto-detecting yours. Could help other people with the same problem.

yeah, dont wait till ya sell, its a common newbie mistake. staking rewards are counted as income when ya get 'em, not when ya cash out. if wealthsimple missed it, ya gotta add it manually. i check the price on the day i got the rewards - coingecko is good for that.

Staking rewards are taxable income the year you receive them, not when you sell. It’s essential to report them at their fair market value at the time you received them. If Wealthsimple doesn’t automatically account for them, you should categorize these rewards as “other income” on your tax return. I maintain a thorough spreadsheet that tracks dates and values for all my rewards, which I pull from my exchange’s transaction history or blockchain explorers. It’s crucial not to delay this reporting, as the CRA considers staking rewards similarly to dividends or interest.
