I’m 22 years old and really want to build something for myself where I have complete control over the results.
Crypto trading seems interesting to me. Yes, I understand the risks involved, but I’m comfortable with smart risk-taking as long as I can keep learning and improving. What I really want to understand is whether it’s actually possible to earn good money or build real wealth doing this long term.
My Current Setup:
- Starting funds: Around ₹12K to begin with (planning to do demo trading first)
- Available time: Can dedicate 2-3 hours each day for studying. After learning, can only do actual trading in early morning or late evening hours (busy running business 8AM-3PM)
- Personal traits: Sometimes get impatient, delay things, and get confused with too much information. I know these are problems and I’m ready to work on them
- My strength: When I decide to do something, I stick with it
What I need to know:
- Does starting with this small amount even make sense? Will I see any real profits?
- Can this work as a side activity or does it need full attention?
- What kind of money could someone realistically earn in 12 months with proper discipline and smart risk control?
- How much do the 30% taxes hurt your actual returns?
- What learning path would you suggest for a complete beginner?
I’d really appreciate any honest feedback, personal experiences, or guidance. I’m not looking for quick money schemes. Just want to know if this direction makes sense with the right approach and patience.
Thanks for any help.
Hey PixStar54! What kind of business keeps you busy till 3pm? The timing might actually work for you depending on which markets you’re targeting.
Your self-awareness about getting impatient and confused is huge. Most people don’t realize these are weak points until they’ve blown their accounts lol. But have you thought about which crypto pairs you want to focus on? Trying to track everything is where that “too much information” problem kicks in.
When you say you stick with things - what’s the longest you’ve committed to learning something completely new? Crypto’s got this weird learning curve where you think you’re getting it, then the market does something unexpected and you realize you don’t know anything
You mentioned early morning or late evening trading windows. Have you checked volume and volatility during those times? Some pairs are dead quiet while others are just getting started.
What made you choose crypto over stocks or forex? And are you planning on Indian exchanges or international ones? Tax implications can be pretty different and might affect your strategy more than you think.
Really interested to hear your thought process!
₹12k’s fine to start, but don’t expect to get rich quick. Been at this 2 years - managing emotions is way harder than learning charts and indicators. Your impatience will kill you since crypto can sit flat for weeks then explode overnight. Try swing trading instead of day trading since you can’t watch the markets during work hours anyway.
I started crypto trading three years ago with ₹15K, so I understand your concerns. The starting amount is less important than the percentage gains; the same principles apply whether you start with ₹10K or ₹1L. However, be mindful of transaction fees on smaller trades, which can affect your overall profit significantly. Part-time trading is feasible, but it does require discipline. I personally trade in the mornings and analyze charts during weekends. One of the benefits of crypto is that it operates 24/7, opening up various opportunities even when the traditional markets are closed. However, be realistic about your expectations—many successful traders I know took 8-12 months to achieve consistent profitability, and that’s not including the learning phase. It’s important not to expect significant income in your first year; instead, focus on minimizing losses while you develop your skills. The 30% tax on gains can also be quite impactful, particularly for short-term profits. Based on my experience, I suggest sticking to spot trading until you’ve seen sustained success for at least six months, as trading with leverage can add unnecessary risk. While demo trading is useful for grasping the basics, it won’t fully prepare you for the psychological challenges of trading with real money.
