Why do I keep losing trades?

I started investing a few years ago, back in March 2019, by putting a good amount of money into cryptocurrency. Soon after, I got into options trading and have been investing my salary into various stocks since then. Unfortunately, nothing has paid off, and I’m feeling really let down by my performance. I realize this is a personal issue, and I feel really upset about not having success after all this time. I really want to improve, but quitting is not an option for me. If anyone has faced similar challenges and found ways to overcome them, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Your timing tells me you’re making the same mistakes most of us made early on. Starting crypto in March 2019 and jumping straight into options? You picked two of the most volatile periods without learning the basics first. The real problem I’m seeing is emotional investing - throwing your paycheck at trades while being upset about losses. That’s a dangerous cycle. I did the exact same thing, constantly trying to chase losses with bigger bets. What finally helped me was stepping away from real trading for a few months and just focusing on learning. Try paper trading instead - you can practice without risking actual money while building a real strategy. And seriously, don’t invest money you need for bills or living expenses. The market isn’t going anywhere, but your financial stability has to come first.

Hey Ben, curious about your approach - when you jumped from crypto in March 2019 to options, did you have a strategy or just wing it?

Your timeline’s interesting. March 2019 wasn’t a bad crypto entry point, so what happened between then and now that caused the losses?

When you say you’re investing your salary in stocks - small monthly amounts or big chunks? That might explain what’s going wrong.

Others mentioned emotional trading and paper trading, which are solid points. But I’m curious about your actual process. Do you research before buying? Set stop losses? Have exit strategies? Or is it more “this looks good, I’ll buy”?

No judgment - we’ve all been there! Just trying to understand where things went sideways so we can help. What’s been your biggest loss if you don’t mind sharing?

i get it, i’ve been there too. it’s easy to jump back in after a rough trade, but takes a toll. try pacing yourself, focus on one trade at a time. once you get your confidence up, then look at crypto or options again. stay strong!
